£32.00

Learn how to use a knot pattern to create a round trivet or mat, and master the skill of splicing to hide the ends of the rope.

This kit contains material and equipment to make two rope trivets, a detailed instruction booklet with step-by-step photos, and online access to a 30-minute instructional video. The only think you need to have is a pair of scissors!

MATERIALS AND SOURCING

The rope provided in this kit was produced by a traditional ropemaker in the UK, using flax grown in Europe. Flax rope has a distinctive smell best likened to fresh hay, which will fade over time.

Flax has been grown for its fibres in the UK for thousands of years, possibly as early as the late bronze age, and certainly by the middle ages. Linen cloth, woven from flax fibres, was an important alternative to woollen clothing, but the advent of imported cotton around the turn of the nineteenth century led to the demise of the flax industry in the UK.
